PiBurn Featured in “Ben There Done That” Live Webcast: Which Rotary Should you get?

On February 4th, Ben Gonzalez, the Laser Guy, did a great webcast on his FB group, Ben there Done That. The group is an excellent resource for anyone who wants to grow their business and their brand, especially if you work with laser engravers.

Ben covered three rotaries: The chuck rotary from Boss, the Boss MOD roller rotary, and finally the PiBurn. The question we see often is “Which Rotary Tool should I get?” Ben makes a point to not pick favorites and points out that you need different tools for different jobs. Similar to your set of tools at home, you do not keep just one screwdriver, you have many for the odd jobs that pop up here and there. It’s the same with your rotary tools – Ben recommends having one main rotary and one for a back up.

First Ben reviews the Boss MOD Roller Rotary. If you have this rotary but are not 100% comfortable with the alignment that’s needed – watch the video at the 15 minute mark. You have to make sure to check that the rotary is square to the laser and is perfectly aligned. Where people run into trouble with this rotary when they do no check to make sure it’s squarely aligned. He points out that Koenig and Laguna as well as other laser brands use this rotary and many people have great success with it. If you want to be successful with it, use a 90 degree angle with the rotary on a solid surface (min 23) and that the rail and housing are square to each other. Ben goes over the construction of the rotary and shares a few other helpful tips and hints at the 26 and 30 minute mark.

Next comes the chuck rotary. Ben recommended his viewers always always have a chuck rotary on hand to back you up just in case. Ben loves how powerful the jaws of the chuck are and how many different jobs it allows him to do. Importantly, many jobs on the chuck require a little intuitive tinkering. For instance, if you are engraving on a large tumbler, Ben talks about how people use slight modifications to the chuck to make working with the tumblers easier (min 40). He finishes the demo up with a strong point: If there is only one rotary tool you are going to have for your laser, make sure it’s a chuck.

Finally Ben brings out the PiBurn (min 46) and it’s beautiful if we may say so. Ben highly recommends the PiBurn to all his clients. “Sexy” is how he describers it, and honestly, we can’t argue with him.  I mean, just look at it!

The sheer value of the PiBurn (price vs utility) along with the versatility if offers with different drinkware make this an easy choice for Ben’s clients. At the 52 minute mark Ben shows off the adjustable height of the back rotary wheels that make it a snap to level any glass or tumbler you are working with. Also, the clamp (min 52) increases friction and eliminates skipping even with large beer mugs with heavier handles. The back stop limits any “walking” action you might get with certain cups and holds the vessel firmly in place horizontally. It’s a wonderful machine that gives you incredibly consistent results job after job after job.

Ben wraps up with discussing the best settings to use on your Lightburn software and asks to please not be afraid to ask for help! His group Ben there Done That helps many beginners elevate their laser and business skills without fear of criticism.
