Announcing PiBurn V3.0: Our Best Rotary Tool Yet! Order NOW

What do you think of right before you drift off to sleep?

We bet that you’re not thinking about your laser rotary attachment.

But we ARE.

We are obsessed with our customers and their projects that require laser rotaries. Right before we go down for the night, we check the forums, our messages and emails to see if anyone shared any new ideas, projects, feedback or if anyone is having any issues.  We think about how our customers can engrave on those champagne flutes or heavy beer mugs. How can we make the process even more user friendly, accessible and fun?

Nerdy, I know!

But we love our customers that much and obsess constantly over giving them the best rotary tools on the planet.

The variety of different projects our customers create on the PiBurn is really mind-boggling. Everything from the simplest of tumblers to sand-blasted shot glasses and even baseball bats is fair game.

Our customers’ creativity and their ever-evolving needs is what keeps the game interesting; and that is why we never stop innovating. What keeps us up at night?  Incessant thoughts about how to optimize the whole experience of using a rotary.

In our endless quest to improve upon an already great rotary, PiBurn 2.0, we are now unveiling its successor, the PiBurn 3.0! While we are taking orders starting NOW, we will begin shipping the world’s best rotary attachment after Pi-Day (3-14, of course!) the week of March-14th 2021. Only the first 20 pre-orders will be shipped the week of March 14th, the rest will have a longer lead time. Version 2.0 will no longer be available, but will still have support.

So, What’s new in PiBurn 3.0?

First off, the design. Check out the comparison pics:

While you can still recognize the unmistakable styling that defines the PiBurn, the whole machine got a brand new design.

2.0 (Black Frame) vs. 3.0 (Red Frame)

Right away, you will notice three beautiful design improvements (besides the new color scheme)

  1. The drinkware will now be set off to the side of the main rail, not directly over it like in its predecessor. This allows for larger sized drinkware to be engraved in a wider variety of laser machines. We discuss this in detail below.
  2. There is now a precision vertical height control for the two back idle rotary wheels that you can adjust with a twist handle. So satisfying to work with… we’ve tried it, it’s perfection!
  3. Metal Parts! This PiBurn is so stable, smooth, tight, and just solid compared to the predecessor and honestly, any other rotary on the market today. The foot-board, carriage, and even the main rotary wheels that used to be acrylic are now all metal, CNC cut. And boy, does it feel like a solid piece of equipment in your hands.

But of course, there’s lots more than meets the eye.  Keep reading for more details.

Now, let’s break down key improvements in precision, durability, and usability of this rotary one by one.

Let’s dive in!

  1. Metal Parts. As we mentioned, the main parts (head-board and foot-board) previously made out of acrylic are now made out of Aircraft 6061 aluminum alloy making the construction stronger and tighter.  It’s an improvement in durability as well. Metal doesn’t shatter when dropped and takes much more punishment over years and years of non-stop use. But by far, the biggest improvement gained from using this alloy is that it virtually eliminates all flexing of the parts that can be caused by belt tension, weight of the engraving object, or any other force. This leads to better and more consistent engraving results, full stop.

  2. Metal wheels. Previously, the PiBurn had 3D printer wheels. Nothing wrong with that – gets the job done! And while CNC machined metal wheels are a lot more expensive, they do offer the sort of precision and perfect round form that’s not possible to achieve with 3D printed wheels. Wheels that are perfectly round, rotate without any wobble which virtually eliminates undesired object movement i.e. “walking”. This is critical for our customers that work on a wide variety of drinkware such as steel tumblers.

  3. Lower clearance. By offsetting wheels to the side, there’s now much added headroom that allows PiBurn to be used with smaller laser machines.  It also means that you can leave your rotary right on top of the laser table and engrave objects as large as 30 oz tumblers without need to remove blades/slats and place rotary on the bottom of laser machine. Lower clearance however, doesn’t prevent you from engraving mugs and tumblers with big handles, there’s plenty of space for the handle to rotate freely and not get snagged on anything.

  4. Precision vertical adjustment. Inspired by 3D printer design, rear wheel base height can be adjusted at a turn of a hand wheel, making it faster and easier to make incremental adjustments on the fly.

  5. More vertical space. Vertical adjustment now has a much wider range allowing you to easily fit objects like wine bottles or growlers that have small diameter neck but large diameter body. Bring on those esoteric items and requests, you will blow your clients away!

  6. New feet design. Because of lower clearance we added simplified “level” feet that allow the PiBurn rotary to sit as low as possible on the laser bed. These feet also feature mounting holes which will allow you to secure the rotary with screws to plywood or some other surface if desired. (We also offer an optional feet upgrade that features Magnetic adjustable feet,  similar to what we had in V2 but with a critical improvement –  now the  front feet have powerful magnets in them as well! These feet are useful if you need to engrave really large objects like the 64oz growlers, for example. They work great with the slanted boss laser bed  – the magnetic force is so strong that you don’t need to secure the rotary with any other means. You’ll need to eat your Wheaties just to pick that thing up off the laser bed.)

  7. Brand new design of rear end stop. The removable rear end stopper that our customers love is now more versatile and adjustable.  It’s platform has been designed to hold new attachments which are currently in development. Stay tuned! (Don’t forget to subscribe to our newsletter and be the first one to be informed when this comes out)

  8. Durable for high volume professional use. We have heard from customers that used their PiBurn to engrave over 1,000 cups! We think that PiBurn 3.0 is the most durable yet and will delight you (and make you handsome profits!) for years and years to come.

  9. Awesome new look with powder coated parts and custom extrusion rails.

  10.          Optional Magnetic Feet offer incredible stability and versatility even on a curved laser bed.  (Perfect for Boss or Koenig Laser Machines)
